Thanks for the comment! You’ve got a very nice site – looks like you’ve put quite a bit of effort into it. I’m just getting this one up and running – still a lot of work to be done. Thanks for visiting!

Great idea for a website, and so true, some of the commercial dog food and treats out there are scary. Unknowing consumers put too much trust in the hands of the manufacturers that promise a balanced meal!
I love your front page – it is so easy to navigate through, very clear and easy to find information.
I will be linking my webpage to this quality information.
Thanks,
Karen

Thanks for your post, I found it very interesting. Trying to wrap my head around it it’s mind boggling.

I fear that I am one of the people that puts too much trust in the dog food manufacturer… but I have such a limited budget that it’s hard to find a good quality dog food at a price I can afford!
I’ll be using your site (and probably others) to try to find the best option for my finances and my dogs. I want them to be healthy, and I’m willing to give up some luxuries for them, but I’m all out of luxuries since I’m a college student with a lot of debt and only a part time job…
Just a tip to those out there, wait until after college to get a pet! You’ll be able to provide for them better! As hard as it can be to wait, trust me, it’s better!
To those that have pets, good luck to you! I just hope you wish me some luck, too ^_^

Awesome idea again for a website. Have you heard of raw dog food? Raw meats and organic veggies would probably keep a dog alive alot longer than now and with much less disease. Thanks for the site. Looking forward to more posts!

I agree, great idea for a website. Many of the products I’ve never heard of but of course I know of Paul Newman and his company. I would trust anything I bought from them, and when I do I will use your link. Thanks for info here.

Steve, believe me I understand about being on a budget! Dog food can be quite expensive.
A few tips for you would be to look at the brands within your budget, and choose the one with the least chemicals. Try visiting a dedicated pet food store – you might be surprised at some of the deals to be found.
Also, occasionally supplement your dog’s food with fresh food. Try some cooked carrots or other veggies, eggs, tofu, cooked grains. (Always avoid onions, grapes and raisins.) These are inexpensive and healthy additions. If your dog has a sensitive tummy, just add a very small amount from time to time. You can slowly increase the fresh food up to about 25% of the diet. (More than that and you should consult your vet)
Hope this is helpful!

Dog food and treats can be expensive, but I do not know of a more worth while way to spend my money than to spend it on my best friends. They are there for me every day and always lift my spirits no matter what my mood. I don’t know what I would do with out them.

Hi Julie,
was following some links when I discovered your site (brianJ maybe, if so me too, looks great so well done hope you do well.
Dog diet is something that is close to heart as I have 2 small dogs who for some reason didn’t like any of the big proprietry brands not that I can’t blame them after tasting the stuff, eck you think!.. but to be honest I’m glad I did.
The salt content was horrendous, no wonder the poor things were always demanding water, you’ll be glad to know I’ve changed their diet and gone organic for them, mostly chicken or fish products.
It doesn’t work out that more expensive and from my own finding they don’t waste as much as the bowls are always emptied so I probably use less overall.
As they say, you are what you eat!

Hi Julie,
Im impressed that you take the time to respond to your comments. I like your recommendation to add fresh food to your dogs diet if you are on a tight budget and cant afford the expensive food.
We often give leftovers to our dogs so why not make it the healthy leftovers. (excluding the toxic raisens, grapes and onions).
I would also recommend that to avoid behavior problems people feed those leftovers properly from the dog dish, not the tableside!!
Great site with great comment conversation, Julie, Thanks.

Thanks Karen! I really enjoy connecting and chatting with people online. I think it puts the human element back into this whole cyber world.
Excellent point about the leftovers. I often cook with the idea of giving some to the dogs. And I agree with you fully – it should ALWAYS be fed properly in the dog dish, NEVER tableside. I would add, don’t hand feed while cooking either. You will end up with a huge begging problem!
Thanks again, Karen

Hi Julie,
I just watched the video – thanks for supporting the adoption of rescue animals – if only people realized how overpopulated dogs are they would spay and neuter their dogs and not just breed them for the heck of it.
The video was also great at pointing out how easy it is to make organic dog treats! And how yummy and healthy!! Although I will admit I will not often get around to baking so I will just buy them!! Oh well.

Hi! I do have a suggestion, but I see from your website that you are a dog trainer. Were you looking for programs to market, maybe?
Regardless, I recommend a digital book from Kingdom of Pets, called Secrets To Dog Training. This is the link – http://c1a31cs84fo9m3fkjk-mgn2×69.hop.clickbank.net/ The link looks so strange, because it is cloaked. Please be aware that I am an affiliate of this program.
Thanks for inquiring! Julie

I love dogs…and cats too. I wish more people would treat them as they’d like to be treated. They are a member of the family after all. I love the idea of organic treats as dogs have a digestive tract taht can act up just like ours (although sometimes you wouldnt think it from what they can eat..yuk).
I am a big supporter of the adoption of rescue animals – its not just dogs that are overpopulated there are a herd of cats running around this local area..some feral some discarded house pets. God forbid I hated The Price is right but Bob Barker was right… people would spay and neuter their cats AND dogs.

I’m glad I stumbled across your site. I’ve never given a lot of thought to natural dog food but I suspect if I changed Gracie’s diet from Purina to something natural she wouldn’t care (or even notice!). She’s half Lab and as we all know, Labs will eat anything!

I’m glad you stopped by, Jerry! I would highly recommend making the switch – do it slowly over a week or two – but it is worth the investment. You will be gifting Gracie with a healthier, longer, more active life! We have two senior dogs who have eaten a healthy diet since they joined our family, and they are both in great shape, very active, bright and alert.

Great info on the benefits of natural organic dog food! Organic food offers lasting benefits to humans, and now dog owners are realizing that it can help their pets too. It can give your dog a longer, healthier, and happier life. She will have a stronger immune system, fewer digestive and skin problems, and will not be overweight. Organic dog food may cost more than conventional dog food, but it is free of pesticides, preservatives, antibiotics, and hormones. If your dog likes organic food and it keeps her healthy, it may be the right choice. It may also help you to save on medicines and veterinarian’s bills.

I would love to go totally organic for our dog. I often wonder what exactly is in our pet food. Up till now we use I AMs but over here in japan it is really expensive. I have never seen organic dog food over here in Japan and would love to be able to order it online. My dog loves veggies! Infact he eats the carrot fibre and an egg a week with his dog food – anything to avoid the preservative clad dog food.

Such a great resource, thank you for this blog. I have recently switched my dog to a mainly raw meat diet. It’s been wonderful so far. Any treats I give are meat primarily, but I specifically look for “grain-free”. This btw is great if your pet needs to shed a few pounds. One treat I have found and am very happy with is Companion Natural Pet Food’s freeze-dried treats. Whole chicken hearts etc, that can be reconstituted by adding water. I don’t sell them…maybe I should!

Hello, are there any really good organic cat treats?? I think a site like this should be made for cats as well, my cat loves treats but its not organic. Also is organic really healthier and better for dogs and cats?

Absolutely! Click on any of the links on my site, when you get to the next page, do a search for organic cat treats – you’ll get tons of choices – even organic catnip!
Is organic healthier? The biggest reason to go organic is to avoid what is unhealthy is most products – all kinds of chemicals, fillers, meat from horrible sources, etc. As an added bonus, often organic ingredients retain higher nutritional values than traditionally grown and processed ingredients.
Thanks for visiting!
